27. Be still

“Be still and know that I am God;

I will be exalted among the nations;

I will be exalted in the earth”

Psalm 26:10

Amidst all the chaos that was going on around the psalmist he had the courage to stand before the people and trust in You Lord. In my daily walk I often forget just how grand You truly are. You who formed the earth and the universe both known and unknown (Gen 1), You who parted the sea and rescued Israel from the hands of the Egyptians (Exodus 14:21), You who became flesh and dwelt among us (John 1), paid our ransom (1 Timothy 2:6), and rose again on the third day (The gospel message); God incarnate, God with us (Matthew 1:23). I forget that You are with me and that Your Spirit resides in me (1 Corinthians 3:16). I admit that I am often far too caught up with the current circumstances of my life or preoccupied with future ones that I ignore your gentle voice of reassurance, listening rather to the loud voice of ‘self-sufficiency’. In other words, I’m too busy for You God. Yet it is never too long before my plans fall apart and my life slips through my controlling fingers and breaks to pieces on the ground. All the while You are ever more kindly calling me towards Your love and mercy, Lord it is you who restores my brokenness. Be still, O my soul, and know that He alone is God, and He loves You. Be glorified in the way you use me, may the sum of my life be fitting of your calling grace.

"God is our refuge and strength,

an ever-present help in trouble.”

Psalm 46:1
